Ian Jindal, Editor-in-Chief, InternetRetailing

Ian Jindal is consultant, advisor and publisher, driving transformation in ecommerce and multichannel retail.

Ian co-founded Internet Retailing, the trade publication for Europe's professionals in multichannel retail, in partnership with SJP and Mark Pigou. Ian leads the strategic direction of the title, developing the editorial and services to anticipate and meet the demanding needs of this dynamic sector.

Ian founded and directs the UK's first MSc qualification in Internet Retailing (with Econsultancy and Manchester Metropolitan University's Business School).

Ian acts as a board-level advisor to major retail and consumer businesses: House of Fraser, Marks & Spencer, John Lewis, Camelot Group, Toast, Couturelab, De Bijenkorf and numerous other retailers. He has previously been Group eCommerce Director for Littlewoods Shop Direct Group and Head of Online Operations for the BBC.

Ben Farrell joined the John Lewis Partnership in 2011 as Group
Head of Operational Risk Management, embarking on a career in retail having spent over twenty years in the British Army following University. His career in the Army began at the end of the Cold War in Berlin and he subsequently held appointments across the spectrum of strategic, operational and tactical activity. He left the Army in 2011 as a Colonel from a strategic planning role in the Army’s HQ. Prior to that appointment, he commanded his Regiment (the Irish Guards) and led them in Afghanistan and Kenya having previously commanded soldiers during the invasion of Iraq, in Kosovo, Macedonia, Bosnia and Northern Ireland. He worked in the Ministry of Defence for a number of years in various strategy roles and led the operational team responsible for the day to day running of the British military operation in Iraq for two and a half years from a dingy bunker in North London. He has a Masters degree in Military Technology from Cranfield University and was appointed as a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 1999 following operational service in Kosovo.

In his role as Head of Operational Risk Management he was responsible for developing the John Lewis’ Partnerships resilience and awareness of future risks to successful trading. In February 2014 he took up his current role as Head of Central Operations and Transport for John Lewis. He has a wide and varied array of responsibilities across John Lewis’ daily and future operations and loves the fast pace and challenges of the job!

Katie McQuaid, Director - Fufillment, Amazon UK

Katie McQuaid is the UK Director of Fulfilment by Amazon and has accountability for all aspects of this significant and growing business in the UK.

She joined the business in 2014 from Tesco where she was latterly the UK Clubcard Director. In this role, her team was responsible for all targeted marketing activity and end-to-end management of the loyalty scheme with 16 million members (branding, marketing, website and operations). This followed her role in which she was responsible for Business Development for Tesco.com including the launch of Tesco’s Marketplace.

Prior to her time at Tesco, Katie was a consultant at McKinsey and Mercer Management Consulting (now Oliver Wyman Group) and has an MBA from INSEAD.

Roger Morris, Head of Royal Mail Parcels, is an expert in the delivery industry with a career spanning 19 years. Roger currently has responsibility for product management, development and marketing for parcels at Royal Mail, as well as holding responsibility for the development of the Royal Mail retail channel.

Roger was born in Longford, Ireland and grew up in Dublin. He completed his BSc in Dublin and went on to study his MSc at the University of Southampton.

Roger has previously worked in commercial and senior management roles in domestic and international B2B markets, with DHL Express and Cemex, in Brussels, Bonn & Madrid. He currently lives and works in London.

Samuel Mueller is the CEO and co-founder of Scandit and is responsible for overall strategic direction, marketing, sales and business development.

Prior to Scandit, Samuel was a management consultant and project leader for multinational companies such as Swiss Airlines, Swiss Re and IBM as well as a corporate researcher at the renowned IBM Zurich Research Lab. While at IBM, Samuel was awarded an IBM Research Division Award and a total of three IBM Invention Achievement Awards. He has authored numerous patent applications and has published his research results in leading conferences and journals.

Samuel holds a PhD from ETH Zurich and graduated summa cum laude with an MSc in Computer Science and an MA in Financial Economics, both from the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

During his 20 years at the forefront of B2C Logistics he has worked with most of the major retail organisations in the UK and brought that experience towards developing the multi-channel proposition within one of the country’s most iconic businesses.

Richard has been with Ocado for four and a half years, joining as a Business Development Analyst in 2011 to help build-up the freshly created General Merchandise division. Before joining Ocado Richard was a Management Consultant at Oliver Wyman where he focused on the retail and rail industries.
Richard studied Engineering at Trinity College, Cambridge where he achieved a BA and MEng.

Prior to joining Tesco, Edward was an Army Officer, retiring as a Major in 2012. Positions have included; Squadron Commander in the Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment, within the Defence Supply Chain, Operations and Movements (DSCOM) at the heart of Defence Equipment and Support (DES) and a mix of other roles over 19 years.

After graduating from Wolverhampton University in 2002, Vinesh joined Carphone Warehouse under their retail management programme having been unable to find a suitable role in the Computer Sciences field, what was meant to be a few years turned out to be 10, spanning roles in store / warehouse and head office.
Since May 2005 his career has been all about Returns, initially looking after the online returns for all Carphone warehouse brands, expanding to managing the end to end process for Returns through all sales channels, wholesale and distribution.
In his last 18 months at Carphone Warehouse accountability extended to head up Reverse Logistics for Carphone Warehouse, Phone House, Geek Squad and the Best Buy business - providing a reverse supply chain solution for the whole group, reducing costs and improving the customer experience hand in hand.
Then moved to Tesco in 2013 after taking a 6 month career break, managing Commercial Terms and Financial Planning, ensuring suppliers were signed up to a firm but fair Returns Agreement and the GM Returns team remained on track to deliver a great customer experience whilst trying reduce costs.
Vinesh now works for Sky responsible for the end to end Supply Chain operations of Sky Mobile.

Paul Johnson-Barnet grew up in Weston-Super-Mare, and began his career with Clarks Shoes. There, he gained experience in time study, production management and world class manufacturing techniques, based at a number of production sites in the south west. In 1994 Paul moved into logistics and for six years worked with Tibbet &Britten, John Menzies and own contract warehousing. In 1999 Paul studied an MBA as Aston University and in 2001 moved into the interim management market, where he worked for 12 years on various Supply chain assignments across Europe, for clients including, NSK, Whittard of Chelsea and The British Library, before returning to the permanent market in 2011 as Supply Chain Director for Hobbycraft. In June 2014 Paul Joined J.Barbour & Son as Global Head of Distribution, with sites distribution sites in the UK, Europe and USA.

Fast Track has transformed their small item delivery customer proposition, with same day fulfilment to 90% of the UK, with 4 slots a day, 7 days a week. Operationally, this builds on their new Hub and Spoke model, with fulfilment from local stores.

Prior to this role at Argos, Greg worked for 3 years in Operations Development roles in Tesco and spent 3 years as a Strategy consultant at PwC.
